I am a follower of Hellenismos. This means that I try to live my life as close to that of the Ancient Greeks. Religiously, culturally, and historically, I try to honor the beliefs of the Ancients and adapt them to a present day environment. While this may not always be easy, I feel great comfort in knowing that I live my life attempting to honor the Gods and the people who created one of the greatest (and first) democracies in all of history.
I first heard the word Hellenismos from a member of the YSEE (the Supreme Council of Ethnikoi Hellenes) and felt that it was the most accurate term for describing all that encompasses Hellenic polytheism. Some may call it Hellenic Reconstructionism. Others may call it Hellenes or the Hellenic religion. Hellenismos includes the culture, religion, language, and every day life of the Ancients. In order to fully understand their ways, it is necessary to use literature from the time period. There is no Bible or guide book, though there is much speculation that many of the books used by the Ancients for religious purposes were destroyed during the conversion in Greece to Byzantine religions.
It was this conversion that destroyed all public displays of Hellenismos. However, some of the ideals of the religion have been passed down from those who truly never gave up their Hellenic polytheistic beliefs. These beliefs had to be kept hidden for centuries because even as recent as just a few years ago, a person could be arrested or harassed for believing in polytheism. It is through the efforts of groups such as the YSSE that Hellenismos is slowly becoming a recognized religion again in Greece, where it was originally founded.
As a follower of Hellenismos, I do not believe in monotheism. There is not one masculine God to whom I devote all of my worship. I do not believe Jesus Christ is my Savior nor do I believe in sin. To me, the world was not created by God some 6,000 years ago. Adam and Eve were not the first man and woman who are the mother and father of us all. Noah’s Ark wasn’t built by Noah nor did it happen quite like the Bible said. I also do not feel it is my duty to convert people to my way of thinking. From this site I merely hope to inform and entertain…nothing more and nothing less. If people choose to investigate further into Hellenismos that is their prerogative.
Hellenismos is an incredibly personal religion. It is not done in a church. You don’t have to attend services once a week to be religious. It’s all about you and the way you choose to live your life. It’s been something that I have been able to share together with my life partner, Ashtyn, in a very special way. So, what do I believe? I invite you to check back often to read about my beliefs as we explore together what life was like…Before Christianity.

I’m sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but I think you have your facts mixed up. Actually, God came first. Since He created everything in the universe, that makes Him “first.”
I’m very sorry to hear your comments about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is our only hope of salvation. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6). “Neither is there salvation in any other [speaking in context of Jesus Christ], for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). God said those things, not me. I just believe them. I hope someday you will also.
ASL – Really? I think you should check your facts considering, by biblical calculations, the world is only around 6,000 years old. However, history, archeology, and science prove without a shadow of a doubt that the Earth is millions of years old and that humans inhabited the Earth well over 10,000 years ago.
What proof do you have that God created everything? If God created the Earth then who created the Solar System? Why is nothing written on the creation of this Solar System as well as other Solar Systems beyond the Earth? We have proof and have “seen” other planets and other Solar Systems. These are tangible objects, unlike God. If God and not man wrote the Bible and God created everything wouldn’t he be able to dictate to man all of this information as to explain how God created more than just the Earth….so humans knew about life beyond Earth?
I don’t recall any mention of Mars in the Bible, but then again, I haven’t read it since I “recovered” from Christianity so I might be wrong. Oh wait…now I remember. Nope. No mention. I guess man did write the Bible because God would have probably explained he created the Earth in six days and then went on to create other planets after he rested on the Seventh Day (Saturday aka the real Sabbath).
Furthermore, prove to me, without using the Bible, that Jesus existed. Where is his tomb? Where is proof of his family’s existence? You can’t prove it because he probably never existed to begin with. If he did, he was just a nice guy who became Christianity’s patsy, not a son of God.
Furthermore, you quote from what we’ve pretty much determined is the man-made, man-written Bible. From there, you aren’t even quoting the REAL scriptures. Those words are not in the original Bible. When you have translated the original Hebrew/Greek written Bible (good luck learning Koine Greek) you would see how bastardized English translations of the Bible have become. Sad truth, the men who wrote the original Bible would be disappointed to know that, over time, people like…King James…didn’t think the original Bible had it right so they added their own translations, threw in some fluff, and made the Bible what it is today.
Your Bible is just one of many loose translations of the original. So, you aren’t even quoting the ’supposed’ real words of God because your English translations aren’t from the original Bible text. So, no, God didn’t say your little Biblical quote from Acts and he didn’t write the Bible if he existed. Until you can prove that he did, I have no reason to believe it.
peace on you , i hope this finds you in good health.

Hello to the owner of this site… this is a good site… I’m studying philosophy to the max… Please also try to read books of Friedrich Nietzsche… His interpretation of the greek god Dionysus and interpretation of Eros by Sigmund Freud. Now i understand why Hellenismos was hidden from the brainwashed dogmatically conditioned public… I want to learn more about Hellenismos and its history… cya
Merry Meet,
I don’t know how often you check this, or whether you or anyone else will actually read this post, but i wanted to add one anyway so here goes. . .
I don’t follow the hellenismos religion. I don’t really know that much about it either, and doubt I can even begin to understand it or your choices to follow it.
But i would just like to give you a standing ovation (for the purpose of the text, author rises and applaudes)
I love your site and think your posts Dominick are highly amusing (especially the one about the 10 commandments!)
I myself was raised in a catholic household, and several years ago broke away from the oppressive regime and soon found paganism. (Paganism in the traditional sense though, not the new neopaganism or Gardnerism).
I am not here to preach my word to anyone else, only to say that I know how it feels to follow a religion that is not widely excepted (actually most people think i worship the devil! – til i explain there is no devil that is) and that paganism allows us to respect all other religions and beliefs and live good lives, worshipping as we please. Because of that, it makes me angry that you christians think you have a right to come on here telling US that WE are the misguided fools for what we believe in, things we can actually SEE and TOUCH. Well, all i can say is, i admire your unquestioning, blind even, faith. Truly i do and i hope you are not disappointed when it comes to your ‘judgement day’ or whatever it is your all so scared about.
As for the site hosts, keep doing what your doing and Blessed be
There are no facts in terms of meta-physical, trancendent, or paranormal phenomena. There are only facts in terms of science. It would be logical to surmise that this is the reason why 93% of scientists are themselves either atheist or agnostic. The simple reason why the Bible and other religious texts from that period give no mention of modern science is because they are products of their time. While they give inspirational moral truths, which remain valid throughout the eions, they hold no scientific truth. The historical relevance of such texts is also debatible because they were written through the methodological lense of the thought of the time. In order to have any validity in terms of that one would have to keep this in mind while hermenuetically analyzing these texts. Furthermore given the amount of historical and present atrocity that can be attributed to all religion it is reasonable to assert that moral truth should be taught seperate from religion. Although many believe man cannot conceptualize moral truth apart from religion the forementioned proof about religious creation suggest mankind developed all moral code anyhow. Religion holds mankind back. In the instance of Christianity, for example, why should we do anything to better a world polluted by sin that is going to end any day now anyway. Just because there are things we do not like about our fellow man does not make the world a corrupt and evil place. We need to stop the division that religions create. Religion is a archaic means of explaning the unexplainable. Let’s just grow up, be strong, and admit we do not know why we are here or what happens, if anything, when we die.

wow…im on the internet tryning to discover truth about religon and spirituality and I came across this site…I grew up in a baptist enviornment and was very heavily into the “religious” aspect and not the spiritual…now that I have broken free from mans interpretations and religious rules Im discovering that the Source…or GOd ..or whatever you want to call it …still flows thru my own spiritual energy….I believe that we are immortal spirit energies that return to the source once seperated from the physical body…I believe in a higher power that can charge my energy and help me navigate through this realm of matter …what bothers me the most about the Christian religion is that it is so segragated for the most part….and very closed minded..if there is a kingdom of GOD shudnt it be filled with all kinds of people …and if thats so then shudnt the “church ” reflect just that….I also believe that there is only one way to get to the source and its our duty to seek and find it so that we can be ever connected…peace and blessing to all who are on a journey of spritual truth and enlightment and to the host of this site…stand strong in what tyou believe no matter what the haters say or think…
Greek worship was not the FIRST. The Greeks, like Christainity, Judaism and Islam (all one religion) hijacked spirituality from ancient KMT (Egypt) when they invaded, occupied and raided the tombs, temples and pyramids. They stole the stories with poor understanding of WHAT they were tappering with. The ancients (black) Kemet people worshipped the Sun-god, Horus (aka Jesus), the CREATOR of the universe, and various other Gods at different time periods. But ALL forms of spiritual worship originated in Kmt and Kush (Ethiopia). Blacks were the FIRST people on the planet. This is why all religions, includig Freemansonary, have signs and symbols from KMT. This is fact. There is archeological evidence and CARVINGS on the walls in the temples, pyramids and tombs. Some text come from their writings “Coming forth by Day and by Night” aka Book of the Dead and other text. Hebrew is not a language; it simple means “crossing over” which is exactly what the Hellenistics, Jews, Greeks, Asians, and other cultures did when they visited and invaded KMT (Egypt). Kemet, Pheonecians/Samaritans (blacks), and Olmecs (First people in America – blacks), were writing utilizing pictography, then heiroglyphics, etc. This is the TRUE history hidden by the Western World. They hid the truth, turn the world against black people, so people would not know where they STOLE history, culture and spirituality from. The Kemet people built the pyramids, yet they (whites) inject false stories about Aliens. They do not want to give the credit to Blacks. But the ancestors left the CARVINGS on the walls to protect the history. Everything serves a purpose. The pyramids, tombs and temples still standing from ancient KMT speaks VOLUME.
Ok…First off…many people talk of evolution. If humans evolved from monkeys, how did monkeys get here? How did things before monkeys get here….why is there even a world? Do’t make assumptions on others religions if you can’t answer these questions. God is very real. You better beg his forgivness.
You seem to have something against Christians (opposed to other religions). Why?
religion and science, they are two very separate things. Religion is truly all about faith. If you have faith in one omnipotent god or faith in a being that shares many faces, or others, faith is what guides you spiritually. Even if you split the world into it’s different beleifs and separated them for centuries they would evolve in the same manner, why? becuase we all share the same ideals, even if our gods have different names and came from different places in different numbers, the stories and ideals behind them remain the same. You cannot steal from a religion. Eventually all religions tie into each other, if you are willing to take the blindfold away from your eyes and truly see. Do not get so angry over something that is only different aesthetically. Learn to trust in yourself, your faith, and accept others in their journey through life with their own faith. Different is not always bad. Trying to prove your religion is real is not something you should be so obessed with.
